Stephen Daniel Averitt, son of William Thomas and Alice (Harris) Averitt, was born June 15, 1936 at Vienna, Illinois and departed this life Friday, October 14, 2016 at 12:55 PM at the Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin, Illinois, having attained the age of 80 years and 4 months.
Daniel is survived by 3 brothers – Earl David, Charles Franklyn and Clarence Edward Averitt; and a sister – Alice Rose Harris all of Vienna along with a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by 2 brothers – William Benjamin Averitt, Sr. and James Eugene Averitt; 2 sisters – Bonnie Lee Streetman and Ellen Blanche McBride; 3 brothers-in-law – Clarence Streetman, Henry McBride, Darrell Harris and a sister-in-law – Mary Abner Averitt.
Daniel was a lifelong member of Faith Harvest Assembly of God Church, where he was an usher and played the tambourine.
Daniel was a farm laborer and mowed lawns for a number of families. He had formerly worked at Avery’s Service Station and the Phillips 66 Service Station. He was recognized with 2 awards for distinguished mystery car care service.
Daniel had a unique way of making animal sounds which delighted children of all ages. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending church and spending time with his family & many friends.
Funeral services honoring the life of Daniel Averitt will be held Monday afternoon, October 17, 2016, at 2 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Richard Swiney will officiate. Burial will be in the Berea Cemetery, southeast of Vienna.
Visitation will be held Monday afternoon from 12 Noon – 2 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
