Flo Rene (Murrie) Moeller lovingly known to her family as Bitty, 99, passed away at 7:50 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, at Angel Acres Shared Living Facility near Marion, Illinois.
She was the third child of Newton Jasper Murrie and Julia Edna Kerley Murrie. She was born on March 14, 1917 in Simpson township (Johnson County) lllinois. As a child, the family moved from Johnson County Il to Creal Springs, Illinois. She worked at various jobs in Creal Springs and then later in Marion Illinois. While in Williamson County, she met John George Moeller and they married May 17, 1943 at Chloe and Jesse Soper’s residence in Vienna, Illinois. They resided at Moeller’s crossroads, where Route 13 and Route 166 meet. She lived there until her health dictated otherwise.
She is the last of the surviving children of Newton Murrie and Julie Kerley siblings. She was preceded in death by her brothers Bobby Ray, Deral Lee, John Lowell, Charles Monroe Murrie, Dan and Bill. She is preceded in death by her sisters Chloe Soper, Velma Millie Barthelme, Emma Lou Carter, and Lena Mae Reed. She survived her husband John who died August 9, 1976.
She and John had no children. She is survived by nephews, Mike Barthelme, Ron Barthelme, Bobby Carter, and Woody Reed; a niece – Terry Ceballos, as well as a host of great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews.
Flo, along with her husband John, operated a livestock and grain farm near Marion. She continued the day-to-day operation of the farm following her husband’s death.
Flo was a member of the Williamson County Farm Bureau. She was a Veterans Administration Hospital volunteer for 15 years and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary # 376 of World War I veterans. She was a longtime member and Sunday School teacher in the Davis Prairie/Crab Orchard Baptist Church. She had also served as a Williamson County Election Judge for approximately 50 years.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon, October 6, 2016, at 2 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Dr. Ed Hollis will officiate. Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday afternoon from 1 PM – 2 PM at the funeral home.
