Alma Jean Lanfear – Obituary

lanfear-alma-photo-001Alma Jean Lanfear, age 71 years, a resident of rural Marion (the Lake of Egypt community), passed away Friday morning, October 21, 2016, at 5:55 AM at Barnes-Jewish Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

Alma was born November 12, 1944. She was the daughter of Elbert and Nancy Loretta (Pritchett) George.

On December 14, 1990, Alma was united in marriage to Charles W. “Chuck” Lanfear in Las Vegas, Nevada. He preceded her in death on December 9, 2009.

Alma is survived by: her children – Mona (her husband, Louis) DeVous of Harrisburg, Neil (his wife, Christie) Bundren of Metropolis, Suzi Barker of Bear Creek, North Carolina, Major Charley (his wife, Pam) Lanfear, ret’d. of Decatur, Texas, and Jodi Duhon of Cumming, Georgia; 13 grandchildren – Kyle Schwartz, Jr., Nick Schwartz, Jessica Schwartz, Dylan Schwartz, Henry Bundren, Bruce Neill, Sammi Barker, Bailey Barker, Katie Lanfear, Cason Lanfear, Tyler Duhon, Ashley Duhon, and Elizabeth Duhon; 3 great grandchildren – Sadie, Ryder, and Rilee Schwartz; a brother – Kenneth (his wife, Patty) George of Marion; and a dear and special friend – Dale Smith of the Lake of Egypt community.

In addition to her parents and husband, Alma was preceded in death by an infant brother – Donnie George and a grandson – Justin Schwartz.

Alma was a 1962 graduate of Vienna High School. She was employed by the State of Illinois for 20 years as a secretary at the A.L. Bowen Children’s Center in Harrisburg. She later served as a secretary in the Morris, Illinois Public School system prior to her retirement.

Alma was a member of Lone Oak Baptist Church at Energy. She loved music, playing the piano and attending gospel singings. Along with her dear friend Dale, Alma loved to attend auctions.

A funeral service honoring the life of Alma Lanfear will be conducted Monday morning, October 24, 2016, at 11 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Rodney Chappel will officiate. Burial will be in the Wise-Robinson Cemetery north of Ozark. Pastor David Dyer will conduct the committal service.

Visitation will be held Sunday, October 23, 2016, from 5 PM – 8 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
