Ella Mae “Elly” Stevens Kerley, age 68 years, a resident of rural Vienna, passed from this life Monday evening, August 8, 2016, at 8:25 p.m. at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion following a courageous battle with cancer. Elly was surrounded by members of her loving family at the time of her passing.
Elly was born August 30, 1947 at the Union County Hospital in Anna, Illinois. She was the daughter of Waldo H. and Arminta “Shorty” Parker Stevens.
Elly was united in marriage to Carlos W. Kerley on September 3, 1965 at the West Vienna United Methodist Church. He survives.
Additionally, Elly is survived by: her sons – Junior (his wife, Sheila) Kerley of Rogersville, Missouri and Steve (his wife, Kim) Kerley of Smithton; 2 granddaughters – Caitlin and Savannah; 2 brothers – Jim (his wife, Darlene) Stevens of West Vienna and Bill Stevens of Vienna; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends.
Elly was preceded in death by her parents – Waldo H. Stevens and Arminta Stevens Johnson as well as an infant grandson – Cody Wayne Kerley.
Elly was a 1965 graduate of Vienna High School. She was a devoted homemaker and provided home day care service. Later, she was employed by J.W. Reynolds Monument Co in Vienna and the Chocolate Factory at Dixon Springs.
Elly loved quilting and made many quilts. She also enjoyed making embroidered handcrafts. Elly is fondly remembered for her love of family gatherings and the joy she took in preparing and sharing holiday meals. She was of the Methodist faith.
Funeral services honoring the life of Elly Stevens Kerley will be conducted Saturday afternoon, August 13, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Burial will be in the Kerley Cemetery in the Flatwoods community.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday at Bailey Funeral Home.
