Carrie Alice Wise, age 93 years, a resident of Salem and a former resident of the Glendale Community in Pope County, passed away Sunday afternoon, July 24, 2016, at 5:19 PM at the Salem Township Hospital in Salem, Illinois.
Carrie was born January 18, 1923 in Johnson County Illinois. She was the daughter of Lewis and Eula (nee) Rushing.
On June 22, 1940, Carrie was united in marriage to Buell A. Wise in Jackson, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 20, 2011.
Survivors include: her children – Janice (Jack) Hopkins of Salem, Bob (Joann) Wise of Chatham, and Sam Wise of Owensboro, Kentucky; 9 grandchildren – Mark (Bernie) Hopkins, Paul (Sheri) Hopkins, Michelle (Paschal) Kirby, Jacque Wise, Laura Wise, Andrea Draper, Justin Wise, Lexie (Brandon) Spier, and Mariah Wise; 15 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; a brother-in-law – Leslie (Helen) Wise of Glendale; nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and many dear friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Carrie was preceded in death by: an infant daughter – Sharon Elaine Wise; a brother – John B. Rushing, and 4 sisters – Helen Phelps, Mildred Palmer, Mary Gaynelle Scarborough, and Faye Faulkner.
Carrie was a homemaker. She had also worked along with her husband Buell in the operation of his business ventures. Carrie enjoyed gardening and quilting. She and Buell had also enjoyed traveling.
Carrie was a faithful member of the Glendale United Methodist Church. She became a member in December 1949. Carrie was a charter member of the Mary Circle. At the time of her passing, Carrie was the oldest active member of both the church and the Mary Circle. Carrie is fondly remembered for her devotion to her husband and family.
A Funeral Service honoring the life of Carrie A. Wise will be conducted Wednesday morning, July 27, 2016, at 11 AM at the Glendale United Methodist Church, 464 Illinois State Route 145 North, Simpson, Illinois 62985. Carrie’s nephew, Pastor Steve Palmer, along with Pastor Mike Shearer will officiate. Interment will be in the Glendale Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, July 26, 2016, from 6 PM – 8 PM and Wednesday morning, July 27, 2016, from 10 AM – 11 AM, both at the Glendale United Methodist Church.
