Lydia M. (Wells) Kern, 79, formerly of Olmsted, passed this life into her loving Savior’s arms at 10:45 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2016 at the Union County Hospital in Anna surrounded by her loving family.
She was born January 10, 1937 in Bonnie, IL the daughter of Max R. and Ruby Opal (Williams) Wells. She married John Kern on September 22, 1957 where she accompanied him throughout the many churches he pastored until his death on August 23, 1998.
To this union, they were blessed with five children; one daughter, Debbie (Tracey) Meyer of Cypress; four sons, Kyle (Cynthia) Kern, of Dongola; Randy (Teresa) Kern of America; Terry (Ivy) Kern of Olmsted and Jeff Kern of Ullin; ten grandchildren; Will (Stacie) Kern, Tiffany (Shannon) Moore, Melissa (Matt) Roberts, Brian Kern, Erica (Jacob) Poat, Ashley (Joe) Henderson, Brittany (Shannon) Hoehner, Dylan Meyer, Gracen Kern and Victoria Kern; 17 great-great grandchildren, one sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends.
Mrs. Kern retired after 28 years as a teacher’s aide for the Century School District in Ullin, Illinois. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Cobden, IL.
Mrs. Kern was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband; Rev. John Kern.
Visitation for Mrs. Lydia Kern will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at the Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at the funeral home with Rev. Tony Auxier officiating. Interment to follow in Cypress Masonic Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the Cypress Masonic Cemetery or St. Jude’s Children Hospital and will be accepted at the funeral home.
