Donald Eugene Harper, 71, of Plainwell, MI, and formerly of Vienna, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2016.
Donald was born on June 20, 1944, the son of the late Claude Eugene Harper and Wilda Elizabeth (Parker) Harper. He served his country in the United States Army as a chaplain.
He graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He retired from the Upjohn Company after 18 years of service. He attended First United Methodist Church of Plainwell. He belonged to the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Chemical Society.
Among his hobbies, he especially enjoyed boating.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Chris Harper; three children, Anita (Leonard) Joiner, Elizabeth (Michael Ferguson) Pierce and Jeremy (Gail) Harper; seven grandchildren, Sloane Harper, Bobby Elaman, Alanna Elaman, Natalie Pierce, Jacob Harper, Alex Pierce and Zoe Pierce; one brother, William (Cynthia) Harper and one sister, Patricia Harper; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, May 9, at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St., Kalamazoo, MI 49007.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, at the funeral chapel, officiated by Pastor Kathy Brown. The graveside service with full military honors will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
