VHS Talon receives mini grant

Vienna High School’s student-run newspaper, The Talon, was recently awarded a $1,500 mini grant from the Illinois Press Foundation. The foundation, founded in 1982 to encourage young journalists, is part of Illinois Press Association. More than 450 newspapers are members of the Illinois Press Association, including this one.

The grant VHS received will be used to help offset production and distribution expenses of the student newspaper. The Talon is produced six times a year by the students and is printed by The Vienna Times. It is distributed to the student body and to the public as a supplement in The Times.

The Vienna Times publisher Lonnie Hinton, representing Illinois Press Association and its foundation, presented a check to members of The Talon staff last week.
