Stephen “Todd” Smith, age 24 years, a resident of Belknap, passed away at 5:30 p.m. Monday, October 5, 2015, at the Ridgway Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Ridgway, Illinois.
Todd was born March 6, 1991 in Carbondale. He was the son of William “Jim” Smith and Dawn Mattingly Smith.
He was a 2010 graduate of Vienna High School and previously employed at Wal-Mart in Paducah, Kentucky.
Todd was a huge supporter of Breast Cancer Awareness and Relay For Life Events. He loved nature and was an avid outdoorsman.
Todd never knew a stranger and had a way of bringing out the best in people to make them laugh. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
Todd is survived by his parents, Dawn Mattingly Smith of Carbondale and William “Jim” Smith of Belknap; four sisters, Keesha Lo of Carbondale, Debora Lovelace of Belknap, Malissa Smith of Paducah, Kentucky and Hailey Smith of Beaver Dam, Kentucky; one brother, Christopher Smith of East Prairie, Missouri; fiance, Katherine Carpentar of Golconda; maternal grandparents, Wilma and Donald Mattingly of Belknap.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jim and Donna Stroud Smith; one uncle, Stanley Mattingly.
Funeral services for Todd will be held Friday, October 9, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak. Rev. Roland Jedlick will be officiating.
Interment will follow at the Friendship Cemetery in Goreville.
Visitation will be Friday morning from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour of 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
