Ken Harper Turner – Obituary

Turner PhotoKen Harper Turner of Belknap, IL, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, while vacationing in Colorado.

Ken was born on September 7, 1947 to William and Ernestine Turner in Paducah, KY. He attended Vienna High School and graduated Metropolis High School. The Massac County native took his talents to the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) where he became a Rebel basketball star. Playing as #24 he was All SEC in 1968 and 1969, a member of the “1000 point” club, and

All-Century Team.   He also served as Rebel Basketball Assistant coach for 7years under Coach “Cob” Jarvis before returning to southern Illinois.

He was the Facility Manager at the Department of Motor Vehicles in Metropolis, IL for 17 years. His hobbies included camping and enjoyed

traveling on Amtrak. He logged over 60,000 miles on Amtrak. He loved the outdoors, hunting and listening to music from Old Time Gospel. He loved his family, friends, coworkers and his Ole Miss Basketball teammates. He also received great joy from his 4 legged companions.

Ken is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Howard Turner; his

Sons Jeff Turner and Chris Turner (Lauryn) and step-sons Shane (Allyson), Josh and Richard (Christie) Howard. He leaves his best friends, true sidekicks and brothers Randy (Cindy)Turner and Don(Karen) Turner and nephews/nieces Damon, Dustin, Josh and Sarah. He was delighted by and so proud of his grandchildren, Price and Rylee Turner.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Ernestine Turner.

A Celebration of Life will be held November 7, 2015 at 3pm at the New Hope Baptist Church in New Columbia, IL (6804 New Columbia Rd, Belknap, IL 62908). There will be potluck food and fellowship immediately following.
