Wanda was born January 10, 1924. She was the fourth of five children born to Dennis & Floy (Coryell) Swanner.
Wanda was united in marriage to Halford Darnell and later married to Arvel Stricklin. They preceded her in death.
Survivors include: 3 nieces and 3 nephews – Dennis Swanner, Ray Swanner, Judy Perhach, Bruce Norcutt, Gail Heinz, and Elaine Middleton; 11 great nieces and great nephews, as well as a host of friends and her First Baptist Church family.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Wanda was preceded in death by: 3 sisters – Mildred Canada, Gladys Norcutt, and Floy “Teddy” Adams; a brother – Lester Swanner; and a nephew – Larry Norcutt.
Wanda had worked as a furniture upholsterer. She also provided clothing alteration services. Wanda enjoyed sewing, crafting and quilting. She also had a great love of dogs and cats.
Wanda was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Vienna.
For a number of years, Wanda, along with her first husband Halford, would travel seasonally to the Pacific Northwest to help with the annual apple harvest. Wanda enjoyed these trips immensely.
A Celebration of the Life of Wanda Darnell Stricklin will be conducted Saturday morning, August 29, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 301 North 7th St., Vienna, Illinois. Dr. Ed Hollis will officiate.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 28, 2015, from 5 – 7 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
Private interment will be in the Belknap Masonic Cemetery.
