Shirley M. Stafford Lockerby – Obituary

Shirley M. Stafford Lockerby, age 77 years, a resident of Golconda, passed away Sunday afternoon, July 19, 2015, at 4:46 p.m. at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Mary Stafford, in the New Columbia community.

Shirley was born March 4, 1938 in Johnson County Illinois.  She was the daughter of Arthur Street and Minnie (Baitey) Street.

On March 14, 1955, Shirley was united in marriage to Clifford “Tip” Stafford.  He preceded her in death.  She was later united in marriage to Kenneth Lockerby.  He also preceded her in death.

She is survived by 3 sons – Roger Stafford and his wife Mary of the New Columbia community, Wilburn “Red” Stafford and his fiancé Mendi Werner of Eddyville and Jerry Stafford of Golconda; seven grandchildren – Jeffrey (Brandie) Stafford, Jeremy (Ashley) Stafford, Jessi (Mike) Hall, Jodi Stafford, Heather (Todd) Goodson, Stacey Johnson and Steven Ward; fifteen great-grandchildren – Savannah, Makayla, Jackson, Langston and Madison Stafford, Ali and Mason Goodson, McKenzie and Macey Swinford, Braylen Johnson, Ryder, Lily and Tucker Ward, Emeli and Chelsie Werner; two dear and special friends that were like her own grandchildren, Leonard and Linda Goggio; a sister – Shelby (Jim) Mifflin of Golconda; five brothers – Art (Doris) Street of New Columbia, Jim (Marlene) Street of Vienna, Harold (Mary) Street of Vienna, Norman Street of Phoenix, Arizona, Deanson (Linda) Street of Harrisburg; four sisters-in-law – Virginia Street of Donaldson, Arkansas, Gladys Street of the Reevesville community, Edna McNeely of Grantsburg and Helen Goddard of Metropolis; two brothers-in-law – Kenneth Stafford of the Renshaw community and Jim Goddard of Metropolis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents – Arthur & Minnie Street, her first husband – Clifford “Tip” Stafford, her second husband – Kenneth Lockerby; two brothers – Lowell Street and Bob Street; two sisters-in-law – Lillian and Helen Street and a brother-in-law – Troy McNeely.

Shirley was a graduate of the Wartrace School.  She was of the Baptist faith.

Shirley spent the majority of her working career at the Pope County Care Center in Golconda, where she was employed as a C.N.A.  Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and caregiver to the sick and elderly, as well as being a good friend to many.

Her passing will leave a tremendous hole in our hearts.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, July 22, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.  Pastor Frank Forthman will officiate.  Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in the Renshaw community.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.

Serving as pallbearers will be – Jeffrey Stafford, Jeremy Stafford, Gene McNeely, Randy Belford, Alex Stafford, and Mike Hall.
