Tom William Haden, Sr.

Tom HadenTom William Haden, Sr., age 70 years, a resident of rural Goreville, Illinois, passed away Monday afternoon, June 8, 2015, at 2:21 p.m. at his home.  Tom and Judith had resided in Johnson County for the past four years.  Previously, they were residents of McEwen (Humphreys County) Tennessee.

Tom was born May 15, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan.  He was the son of Randall W. and Bessie M. (Farden) Haden.

On June 13, 1964, Tom was united in marriage to Judith Walden.  She survives.

Other survivors include: his children – Tom W. (Charlyn) Haden, Jr. of Goreville, Kathi Haden of Atlanta, Georgia, Windi (Chuck) Summers of Waverly, Tennessee; grandchildren – James Davis, Kristina Davis, C.J. Summers, Tom W. Haden III; great grandchildren – Madison Davis, Collin Davis and Kiyla Kell; a sister – Alice Clover of Anna; and a brother – William B. “Bill” Haden of Vienna.

Tom served in the U.S. Navy from 1963-1967 and was honorably discharged.  He was a member of the Humphreys County Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter # 1053.

Tom was employed for 35 years as a commercial truck driver.  He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and listening to Country Music.  He particularly enjoyed the music of Loretta Lynn.  Tom also enjoyed watching westerns, especially the movies of John Wayne.

Military rites will be accorded Friday, June 12, 2015, at 1 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.  The Beggs-Gurley VFW Post # 5222 and personnel from the U.S. Navy will conduct the rites.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Friday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.

Memorials may be made to the Illinois Special Olympics in honor of Tom’s Brother, Bill.  Donations may left in care of the funeral home or mailed to: Special Olympics Illinois, 608 East College St. Carbondale, IL 62901.
