Ozark man charged with murdering his father

A shooting in Johnson County early Saturday afternoon, May 16, has left an Ozark man dead. And his son is being charged with his murder.

Nicholas G. Schapmire, 67, of Ozark died Sunday, May 17, at an Evansville hospital, the day after being shot in the head with a revolver.

Dennis Schapmire, 35, is being charged with murder, a class M Felony. If convicted he could receive 20 years to life in prison. His first court appearance will be today, Monday, May 18, at 1:00 p.m. in Johnson County Court.

The shooting took place at approximately 1:50 p.m. Saturday at 625 Ozark Road in northeast Johnson County.

Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service and Illinois State Police responded to the scene.

Illinois State Police are continuing the investigation.
