Mickey Lynn Thornton – Obituary

Thornton, Mickey (picture) 001Mickey Lynn Thornton, age 70 years, a resident of Anna, Illinois and a native of Buncombe, passed away at Chamness Care, his home for the past two years, on Friday, March 20, 2015 at 11:57 a.m..

Mickey was born September 16, 1944 in Anna.  He was the son of John F. “Johnny” and Lowanda (Dalton) Thornton.

Survivors include: his brothers and sisters – Glen Thornton of Elgin, Don Joe (Ruth Ann) Thornton of Springfield, Jack (Beth) Thornton of Wolf Lake, Kathy (Don) Waters of Marion, Rita (Jerry) Vaughn of Marion and Patricia (Steve) Russell of Goreville; a brother-in-law – H.V. Trammell of Stonefort; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Mickey was preceded in death by: a brother – John Allen Thornton; a sister – Sharon Kay Trammell; and a sister-in-law – Peggy Thornton.

In his early life, Mickey enjoyed growing up on the family farm in the shadow of Draper’s Bluff.  He enjoyed watching the livestock, the activities in the field during planting season and harvest, and spending time with his family and neighbors.   Mickey enjoyed tractors, and had many toy tractors, as well as stuffed animals.  He enjoyed going on shopping trips, attending parades and festivals and sitting on the deck watching the geese on the pond. Mickey had a deep love for people and was beloved by all who knew him.  Mickey was of the Baptist faith.

For the last two years of his life, Mickey made his home at Chamness Care in Anna.  The staff became members of his extended family and showed him the utmost concern and provided exceptional care.  Mickey’s family wishes to acknowledge and extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff  of Chamness Care for the love shown to Mickey and for taking care of him as if he were a member of their own family.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 23, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.  Pastor John Walden will officiate.  Burial will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery near Buncombe.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
