Georgia L. Holmes, age 92 years, a former resident of Vienna, passed away Thursday evening, March 5, 2015, at 9:30 p.m. at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis.
Georgia was born October 29, 1922 in Bloomfield, Illinois. She was the daughter of Charles Soper and Lola (Fairless) Soper.
In 1943, Georgia was united in marriage to Elvis Claude Holmes. He preceded her in death in 1970.
Georgia is survived by her children – Peggy Tudor of Paducah, Kentucky and Elvis “Gene” Holmes and his wife Christine of Metropolis; 3 grandchildren, a great grandchild, a great-great grandchild, and a sister – Bonnie Turley and her husband Joe of Marion.
In addition to her parents and husband, Georgia was preceded in death by two brothers – Kenneth & Eugene Soper.
Georgia was a homemaker. She was of the Methodist faith. Georgia was an avid reader.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at 10 a.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Larry Moreau will officiate. Private inurnment will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery.
