Ruth Ann Ross Sampson – Obituary

Sampson, Ruth 001Ruth Ann Ross Sampson, age 72 years, a resident of rural Grantsburg, Illinois, passed away Sunday morning, February 22, 2015, at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky.

Ruth was born October 2, 1942 near Vienna. She was the daughter of John D. “Buck” Ross and Inez (Haden) Ross.

On August 11, 1962, Ruth was united in marriage to Guy Louis Sampson at Pleasant Ridge Church near Vienna. He preceded her in death on March 6, 2011.

Survivors include: her mother – Inez Ross of Vienna; her sons – Chad Louis Sampson and Brian Louis (Melinda) Sampson of Grantsburg; 2 grandsons – Clay Louis Sampson and Cole Louis Sampson; 2 sisters – Barbara Ackmann of Buncombe and Louise (Hughye) Thomas of Simpson; 3 brothers – Richard (Evelyn) Ross of Cypress, Lowell Ross of Simpson, and Jim (Kay) Ross of Vienna; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

In addition to her husband and father, Ruth was preceded in death by a brother-in-law – Arthur Ackmann; a sister-in-law – Sue Ross; and a nephew – Allan Ackmann.

Ruth was a graduate of Vienna High School. She was a dedicated homemaker and Shawnee Alliance For Seniors volunteer. Ruth enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and reading romance novels. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Ruth was a member of the Red Hat society as well as the Simpson Baptist Church.

Ruth is fondly remembered as a loving and devoted Daughter, Mother, Grandmother and Sister. She always enjoyed helping others.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 28, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Billy Thomas will officiate. Burial will be in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, north of Vienna.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Friday, February 27, 2015, at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
