Four people in custody in connection with shooting
MASSAC/JOHNSON COUNTY, IL – Illinois State Police (ISP) officials are investigating an IDOT truck being shot, while plowing snow on I-24. The incident occurred on Monday, February 16, 2015, in Massac County. The investigation involved the Illinois State Police, Zone 7 Investigations, Crime Scene Services, Johnson County Sheriff’s Department and Vienna Police Department.
At approximately 10:55 a.m., an IDOT snow plow driver reported that he was shot at, shattering the vent window on the truck, while clearing Interstate 24 at milepost 37.5 in Massac County. The IDOT driver reported the shots came from a black Chevrolet SUV with tinted windows.
At 11:11 a.m. Johnson County Sheriff Deputies and ISP Troopers located the suspect vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated on the vehicle on I-24 westbound at the MP 16 exit ramp to IL 146 in Vienna. Five subjects were taken into custody without incident. Two weapons were recovered from the vehicle.
The occupants of the vehicle where charged with the following:
Kenneth Lamont Leonard – Unlawful use of weapon and Illegal transportation of alcohol
Stevon A. Johnson – Aggravated Assault, Unlawful use of weapon, Possession of cannabis less than 2.5 grams
Eric A. Calicutt – Driving while license suspended, No valid insurance, Improper use of registration, No valid registration, Illegal transportation of alcohol
Latoya L. Clark – Wanted on Warrant
One of the vehicle occupants was released with no charges.
The investigation continues. Multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in the response including the Illinois State Police, Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, and Vienna PD.
