William Dale Whitehead, 68, passed away at 1:58 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, in Barnes Hospital in St. Louis.
William was born Sept. 30, 1946, in Herrin, to William “Bill” Allen and Ruby Louise (Presley) Whitehead.
He married Judy Nordmeyer. She survives of Goreville.
William was a member of Spillertown Baptist Church. He attended Apostolic House of Worship in the morning and Spillertown Baptist Church in the evening.
He was a retired coal miner and a member of UMWA. He also worked at Odum Concrete in Marion and was the mayor of Spillertown for over 30 years.
Survivors include sons, Darren Whitehead of St. Ann, Missouri, Chad and Sara Whitehead of Marion, and Bruce Whitehead of Carterville; daughters, Katie and Brad Denton of Marion, and Janae Whitehead of Carterville; stepson, David and Raven Steckenrider of Goreville; stepdaughters, Julie and Lloyd Boren of Savannah, Georgia and, Jeannie Sittig of Savannah, Georgia; several grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Gayle and Lindell Stover of Marion; brother, Gene and Barb Whitehead of Marion; brother, Jim and Joan Whitehead of Marion; sister-in-law, Jane Whitehead of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jonathan Whitehead; and brother, Jerry Whitehead.
Services will be at noon Saturday, Jan. 31, in Spillertown Baptist Church, with the Revs. Steve Shea and Ben Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in New Salem Cemetery in Creal Springs. Visitation will also be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the church.
