Lucille Stapleton – Obituary

Lucille-Stapleton-1420215400Lucille Stapleton, age 93 years, a resident of Vienna and a former resident of rural Simpson (the Flatwoods community), passed away Thursday afternoon, January 1, 2015, at 12:48 p.m. at Baptist Health in Paducah, Kentucky.

Lucille was born September 29, 1921 in Simpson, Illinois.  She was the daughter of Rev. Wilson Mizell Grant and Elsie (Milliken) Grant.

On August 5, 1940, Lucille was united in marriage to Cleman O. Stapleton in Jackson, Missouri. He preceded her in death on February 2, 2008.

Survivors include: 2 brothers – Bailey Grant of Vienna and Charles Grant of Kankakee; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, including a dear cousin whom Lucille thought of as a daughter, Leda Jane Kerley, of the Flatwoods community.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lucille was preceded in death by her “Mom” Sarah Grant, 2 sisters – Wanda Caby and Imogene Kerley; and 6 brothers – Jesse, Rudy, Norman and Millard Grant, James Holly and Lowell Blades.

Lucille was a homemaker.  She had worked at the Dime Store in Anna as well as working as a waitress at a restaurant in Anna.

Lucille was a faithful member of County Line Baptist Church, where she had served as a children’s Sunday school teacher as well as the adult Sunday school secretary and the church custodian.

Lucille was an avid reader, she enjoyed gardening and walking.  Lucille is remembered for her straightforward personality and her kind, loving and giving spirit.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning, January 7, 2015, at 11 AM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.  Brother David Faulkner will officiate.  Burial will be in the Kerley Cemetery in the Flatwoods community.

Visitation will be conducted from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
