Ruth Evitts – Obituary

Ruth Evitts, age 95, of the Glendale Community, passed away on December 10, 2014 at Southgate Nursing Home in Metropolis, IL.

She was born October 21, 1919 to Festus and Inez (Maynor) Lockaby in Eddyville, IL. She married Walter Evitts on September 28, 1940; he preceded her in death on January 11, 1999. Ruth has always walked closely with her savior and prayed for all her family and friends. She was a member of the Glendale United Methodist Church. She was a Charter Member of Eddyville Order of Eastern Star Chapter 1007. Ruth was the Matriarch of the family and arranged for family gatherings. She loved and supported her family and always had a smile. She continued living in the family home with help from family and her special caregivers, Kathy Workman, Judy Graham, Nita Potts, and Christina Cockrum.

Ruth is survived by two daughters, Linda Fulkerson of Eddyville, IL, Lida (Terry) Gray of Glendale, IL; eleven grandchildren, Jeff (Laura) Evitts, Pam (David) Bramlett, Melody Krumrey, Melisa (Tim) Beane, Mindy (David) Martin, Penny (Mike) McCormick, Katrina (Matt) Snell, Tonia (Brent) Logeman, Tyler (Lauren) Gray, Terra (David) Lipe, Tommy (Assiah) Gray; thirty one great grandchildren, Shelly (Josh) Shiff, Sarah Evitts, Bo (Ashley) Bramlett, Shea (Dusty) Hamilton, Harleigh Krumrey, Jay Krumrey, Kassidy Beane, Tucker (Emily) McCormick, Dakota McCormick, Parker McCormick, Zeke Snell, Gracie Snell, Gabriel Snell, Jacob Snell, Noah Logeman, Luis Logeman, Alex Logeman, Sophia Logeman, Owen Gray, Thomas Gray, Lidia Gray, Brittney (Chris) Cox, Gray David Lipe, Clara Ruth Lipe, J.T. Lipe, Jackson Gray, Ethan Gray, Hannah Gray, Samuel Gray, Joshua Gray, Bethan Gray; five great great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Lanelle Evitts Cannon; brother-in-law, Curt Evitts.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by, son, Donald Evitts; son-in-law, Zan Fulkerson; great grandson, Wyatt Snell; five siblings, Lena  Mankin, James Lockaby, Madie Schumaker, D.N. Lockaby, and Harry Lockaby.

Visitation will be from 11-2 pm on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Glendale United Methodist Church in Glendale, Illinois. Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Glendale United Methodist Church in Glendale, Illinois. Rev. Tommy Gray will conduct the service. Burial will follow the service at the Glendale Cemetery. Aly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
