Robert H. “Bobby” Longworth – Obituary

Robert H. “Bobby” Longworth, age 58 years, affectionately known as “Dancing Bear” passed away unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, December 11, 2014 at 2:57 PM at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.  Bobby was a resident of rural Grantsburg and a former longtime resident of Simpson.

Bobby was born June 16, 1956 in Anna, Illinois.  He was the son of William James Longworth, Sr. and Ruth Ella (Trigg) Longworth.

Bobby was formerly united in marriage to Nita Kay (Helms) Longworth.

Additionally, Bobby is survived by: his children – Patricia LouDean Longworth of Grantsburg and Robert Ira Longworth of Simpson; his 4 year old granddaughter – Gabrielle Rebecca Loudean Fletcher; 3 sisters – Olive (Stephen) Nickels of Simpson, Rosemary Longworth of Plymouth, Indiana, and Juanita Shoemaker formerly of Simpson; 2 brothers – William (Gail) Longworth II of Cadiz, Kentucky and James Hallie Longworth of Simpson; his girlfriend – Sally Heather of Grantsburg; an aunt – LouDean Spurlin of Simpson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents.

Bobby had attended Vienna High School and later attended Shawnee Community College. He is fondly remembered as a self-proclaimed “jack of all trades and a master of none.” Since 1982, Bobby has mowed and maintained the Reynoldsburg and I.O.O.F. (Crossroads) Cemeteries.  He also mowed the Wise-Robinson Cemetery for a time.  Bobby had also worked as an over-the-road truck driver.  He drove for M&M Farm Lines of Bertrand, Missouri and J.W. Henderson Trucking Company located in East Prairie, Missouri. Bobby also operated machinery for the Pennant Bar Ranch and assisted with right-of-way clearing for the Johnson County Highway Department.

Bobby had a great love for and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  He loved to perform karaoke and spending time on his computer.  Bobby was a master at bargaining and trading.

Visitation will be conducted Sunday, December 14, 2014, from 4 PM – 8 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.  In accordance with Bobby’s wishes, cremation will be accorded following the visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the family and will be received at the funeral home.
