George R. Morency, age 69 years, a resident of Paducah, Kentucky and a longtime resident of Elgin, Illinois, passed away Monday afternoon, December 1, 2014, at 1:30 p.m. at Baptist Health in Paducah.
George was born June 1, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois. He was the son of Thomas and Mildred Morency.
On October 8, 1988, George was united in marriage to Mary E. Buttrum in Carpentersville, Illinois. She survives.
George is also survived by his children – Valerie (Jim) Wilcox of Lexington, Kentucky, Daniel Morency of Elgin and Ryan Morency of Waco, Texas; 5 grandchildren; and 2 sisters – Viola Morency of Wheaton and Millie Morency of Illinois.
George was preceded in death by his parents.
George served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal.
George had worked as a deliveryman for Physician’s Sales and Services (P.P.S.) in Elgin.
He was of the Baptist faith. George enjoyed hiking, taking car trips and was an avid reader of Louis L’Amour western novels.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning, December 5, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Burial will be in the Rock Springs Cemetery, near Simpson. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post #5222.
Visitation will be conducted Thursday evening, December 4, 2014, from 5 – 6 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
