Flora K. “Karol” Pollard, age 76, a resident of Vienna and a former resident of Taylorville and Sparta, passed away Monday morning, December 1, 2014, at 4:12 a.m. at the Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis.
Karol was born September 7, 1938 in Granite City, Illinois. She was the daughter of Elbert and Wanda (Postaweight) Ellis.
Karol was united in marriage to Carbin Elledge on March 31, 1956 in Granite City. She was later united in marriage to Elmer Pollard on April 10, 1976 in Sparta, Illinois. He preceded her in death on October 28, 1988.
Survivors include: her children – Connie Pierce of Vienna, Gerald “Bub” Pollard of Redbud, Roy Elledge of Vienna, Sara Gail Sargeant of Vienna, Carol Elledge of Vienna, Tammy Doyle of Quincy, Becky Stearns of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Elmer Pollard, Jr. of Redbud, Terry Jamison of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Lena Snider of Vienna, and Jennifer Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada; 22 grandchildren – Michelle Winterrowd, Patricia Pierce Calhoun, Randall Sargeant, Anthony Sargeant, Steven Sargeant, Tyler Elledge, Cory Elledge, Joshua Pollard, Jonathan Pollard, Justin Pollard, Jerrica Pollard, Kelsie Holland, Chandra Crawford, Crystal Doyle, Christopher Doyle, Walter Stearns, Jeannie Olsen, April Jamison, Kristen Jamison, Jessica Jamison, Mike Lively, Jr. and Jonathan Lively; and 24 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Karol was preceded in death by a granddaughter – Joannie Olsen and a brother – David Ellis.
Karol was employed as a binder at World Color Press Industries in Sparta for approximately 10 years. She was also a homemaker and had provided child day care service. Karol enjoyed making crocheted hand crafted items and loved to shop and attend yard sales.
Karol was a member of the Shawnee Worship Center in Vienna.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon, December 4, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the Shawnee Worship Center, 105 Oliver Street, Vienna, Illinois. Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery.
Visitation will be conducted from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Thursday at the church.
