James R. “Jim” Sanders, 77 of Paris, TN formerly of Elgin passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Presence St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin.
He was born June 23, 1937 in Vienna, IL the son of Tilford and Grace Elzora Mathis Sanders.
He was a graduate of Vienna High School and received an Associate’s Degree from Elgin Community College in Fire Science.
Jim had been a resident of Elgin since 1960 and was employed as a firefighter-paramedic with the Elgin Fire Dept for 23 years. Jim was a member of the first paramedic class at Sherman Hospital and was a Captain, Battalion Chief and Fire Inspector before retiring in 1986.
Jim loved to golf and had a hole in one at his home course, The Tennessean in Paris.
Surviving are his loving wife, Joann Koska Sanders whom he married on July 23, 1957, his loving daughters, Jami (Stephen) Laird of Elgin and Lizabeth Sanders of Castle Rock, CO, 7 grandchildren, Clifford James Laird, Jennifer (Chris) Miranda, Renee (Josiah) Todd, Kathryn and Melanie Laird, Alex Gravel and Timothy Laird, a great grandson Anthony Stephen Laird, 6 sisters, Jane (Sherman) McClellan of Bay Town, TX, Myra (Howard) Powell of Ozark, IL, Mary (Bob) Harper of Tunnell Hill, IL, Sharon Folkman of Bismark, IL, Sally (Clyde) Taylor and Judy Nutty both of Vienna, a brother, George Sanders of Jensen Beach, FL and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 grandchildren, Emily, Thomas and Colleen Laird, and 4 sisters, Holly Colleen Sanders, Betty Daniels, Vickie Webb and Connie Garner.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 22 at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. with firefighter walk through at 4:45 P.M.
