Dorothy “Sue” Stephens, formerly of Germantown Hills, IL; Greers Ferry Lake, AR; and Vienna, IL; went home to be with her Lord on November 14, 2014 in Indiana, after a brief stay at the United Methodist Community Rehab.
Visitation will be held at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna, IL, from 4 – 6 PM, on Friday, November 21, 2014, and at the Ozark Baptist Church from 10 – 11 AM immediately preceding the funeral.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate Dorothy’s life at the Ozark Baptist Church in Ozark, IL on Saturday, November 22 at 11 AM with Reverend David Webb officiating. Immediately following a brief service at the gravesite, lunch will be served at the Ozark Baptist Church.
Dorothy was born in Glendale, Illinois, to Charles Russell and Ruby (Murphy) on January 3, 1938. She grew up in Germantown Hills, graduated from Metamora High School in 1956, and then attended Brown Business College in Peoria, IL. In the same year, she married Ralph Stephens.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Dorcas (Dean) Abplanalp of Indiana, son David (Marie) Stephens of Tennessee, sister Mary Lou “Marlo” (Len) Lufman: three aunts: Evelyn Murphy, Yolanda Murphy and Pauline Brown; her bother-in-law Carl Stephens; sister-in-law Emojean Lockard; and many wonderful cousins, nieces and nephews and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, her parents, her brother William Paul, son-in-law Kevan Malcome, and her precious fur-babies Missy, Tibet and Jasmine.
For many years, Dorothy worked in the Payroll Department at Caterpillar in Peoria, Illinois, and then at the Department of Higher Education in Arkansas. She retired to her hometown in Southern Illinois and had recently relocated to Indiana, where she quickly made new friends and enjoyed social activities at The Hearth. Throughout her life, she enjoyed traveling, working in her flower beds, reading, Mexican food, and Fannie May candy.
