Barbara Lee Walker, age 73 years, a resident of Vienna and a former resident of Buncombe, passed away Wednesday morning, October 8, 2014, at 12:25 a.m. at Baptist Health in Paducah, Kentucky.
Barbara was born July 19, 1941 in Johnson County Illinois. She was the daughter of William Herbert & Grace Lee (Crayton) Alsip.
On March 21, 1987, Barbara was united in marriage to Gerald W. “Jerry” Walker at Goreville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on June 21, 2003.
Survivors include: her daughters – Carrie (David) Keith of Vienna and Missy (Vernon) Davis of Goreville; 6 grandchildren – Justin (Jasmine) Keith of Marion, Mathew Keith and Caitlyn Keith both of Vienna, Breanna (Jeremiah) Johnson of Simpson, Nikolas Dunn and Riley Davis both of Goreville; 5 great grandchildren – Andrew, Caleb, Logann, Braden and Athena; a brother – Herbert J. Alsip of Metropolis; 2 sisters – Joyce Armour of Selmer, Tennessee and Lois Leach of DuQuoin; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was preceded in death by: a grandson – Gregory Ty Dunn; a brother – William K. Alsip; and 2 sisters – Alene Solomon and Elizabeth Black.
Barbara was a 1957 graduate of Vienna High School. She received her training and certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse from Shawnee Community College. Barbara had been employed as an LPN at the Massac Memorial Hospital and the Creal Springs Nursing Home.
Barbara was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed sewing and making hand crafts, including quilting, embroidery, and needlepoint. Barbara was also an avid reader of mystery novels. She loved to spoil her grandkids.
A memorial service will be conducted Friday afternoon, October 10, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Jerry Huckleberry will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 12 Noon – 1 p.m. Friday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
