Phyllis was born March 16, 1937 in Karnak, the daughter of Gilbert Heisner and Bernita Reed Wright. Phyllis married her high school sweetheart, Jack, in 1955. After they were married, they moved to St. Charles, IL, then later to Carterville, IL where they resided for the last 50 plus years. Phyllis retired from J.C. Pennys after 27 years of service. She enjoyed the monthly meeting for lunch with the retirees from J.C. Pennys. Phyllis was a member of the Red Hatters Club and she was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carterville.
Phyllis is survived by one son, Jim (Vickie) Spurlock of Carterville; two grandsons, William Pinkston of Energy and Matt Pinkston of Marion; two great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Pinkston and Aaron Pinkston of Carterville; two brothers, Morton (Kathy) Wright of Makanda, Bob (Brenda) Wright of Makanda and two sisters, Robbie Taylor of Metropolis and Sherry Felker of Karnak.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Spurlock; parents, Gilbert Heisner and Bernita Reed Wright; grandparents, Fred and Delcie Reed; two brothers in-law, John Taylor and Clint Felker.
Funeral services for Mrs. Phyllis Spurlock will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2014 at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak with Rev. Alan Milligan officiating. Interment will follow at the Masonic Cemetery in Cypress. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. Friday morning until the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Sociey, envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
