Occupants escape serious injuries in crash near Goreville Saturday afternoon

Firebird under semiIllinois State Police are investigating the cause of this accident that happened at around 3:45 this afternoon on Interstate 24, mile post 9, in Johnson County.

A Firebird, traveling east on the interstate, ended up wedged under a semi-tractor trailer also heading east.

When emergency personnel arrived, everyone was safely out of the car with no serious injuries. Johnson County Ambulance Service transported one person to a Paducah, Ky. hospital.

Goreville Fire Department responded to the scene due to reports of the car smoking. Shortly after the fire department arrived the car caught fire. They were able to extinguish the blaze quickly.
