Two Betas attend leadership camp

RyanandMeighan2Submitted by Kirsten Trambley During this summer, Meighan Smith and Ryan Bradley attended Beta Broyhill Leadership Conference. These two Vienna High School Beta Club members traveled to Gaffney, SC for the camp held at Limestone College on July 20-25. Smith attended the conference as the current Illinois Senior Beta Club president. She was also a part of the pre-conference officer training during which she participated in meetings to improve National Beta Club while also taking breaks to enjoy bowling and seeing a movie with her fellow officers. This is Smith’s third year to attend Beta BLC because she was the 2010-2011 Illinois Junior Beta Club vice president. Smith enjoyed her time at this year’s camp because of the friends she made. “My favorite part has to be the council groups because I got so incredibly close to them, and they are like family,” Smith said. This year is Bradley’s fourth year to attend Beta BLC, and he served as a Red Hot which included additional leadership training and assisting with the camp’s snack shop. He said that he enjoys Broyhill because the ping pong games are fun and he likes making new friends. In March, Bradley will run as a VHS Beta Club candidate for a state office. He wants to use his leadership skills that he has gained while observing and working with others in order to be a great candidate and hopefully an outstanding officer. “I plan to take everything I’ve learned there from counselors and current officers to help me become a good candidate,” Bradley said. Next summer, both Smith and Bradley plan to attend the 2015 Beta Broyhill Leadership Conference which is open to all Senior Beta Club members in grades 9-12.
