Jim Goddard – Obituary

Jimmy Goddard obit picJames E. “Jim” Goddard, 66, a resident of rural Tunnel Hill, Illinois, passed away Friday morning, August 22, 2014, at 10:05 a.m. at Baptist Health in Paducah, Kentucky.

Jim was born February 20, 1948, in the Sanburn community in Johnson County. He was the son of Everett Samuel Goddard and Marie (Simmons) Goddard.

Jim was united in marriage to Lora N. Colboth on July 16, 1971, at Tunnel Hill.

His wife Lora survives.

Other survivors include: his children Tracy (Brent) Williams of Vienna and Sam (Sara) Goddard of Tunnel Hill; four grandchildren Kaleb and Emma Williams, and Alexis and Jessica Goddard; two brothers Earl “Kenny” (Sue) Goddard and Jerry (Debbie) Goddard all of Vienna.

He is also survived by his aunts Nancy Tite of Ozark and Joan (J.H.) Boner of Matteson; two sisters-in-law Lena (Scott) Gerringer of Cape Girardeau, Missouri and Ann Evans of Vienna; two brothers-in-law Jerry (Lora) Colboth of Tunnel Hill and David Colboth of Creal Springs; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his father Everett Samuel Goddard, his mother Marie Goddard Cover and his step father Leon Cover.

Jim was a 1966 graduate of Vienna High School and the Southern Illinois University auto body technology school.

Jim was an honorably discharged U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. Jim was a former member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local #318.

He was the owner and operator of Goddard’s Auto Body in Vienna for over 40 years.

Jim enjoyed attending and watching NASCAR races. He was devoted to his family and especially cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning, August 26, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Pastor Darrell Ford and Pastor Pete Vinson will officiate. Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery.

Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post # 5222 and the Illinois National Guard Burial Honors Detail.

Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8 :00 p.m. Monday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
