Lucy Eva Johnson Burgess, age 84 years, a resident of Metropolis and a former resident of the Simpson community, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014, at 2:33 AM at Baptist Health in Paducah, Kentucky.
Lucy was born on January 25, 1930 in the Simpson Community, she was the daughter of Joseph J. and Annie Ruth (Watkins) Trigg.
Lucy was united in marriage to Charles E. “Cotton” Johnson on December 10, 1949 in Vienna. He preceded her in death on January 2, 1983. She later married James Elmer Burgess in Paducah, Kentucky on February 28, 1992, he preceded her in death on November 17, 1997.
Lucy is survived by: her daughter- Linda “Irene” Johnson of Metropolis; a sister- Lou Dean Spurlin of Simpson; several nieces and nephews
In addition to her parents and husbands, Lucy is preceded in death by: 3 brothers- Hobart, Jim and John Trigg and 3 sisters- Violet Broadway, Sarah Johnson and Ruth Longworth.
Lucy was a graduate of McKee Public School and Vienna High School.
Lucy was a homemaker; she had been employed by the Nationwide Glove Company for 8 years.
Lucy enjoyed sewing, crocheting, tatting and other types of craft work. She had made many denim and camouflage jackets.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, July 27, 2014, at 2 PM at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Rev. David Faulkner will officiate. Burial will be in the Kerley Cemetery in the Flatwoods community.
Visitation will be from 12 Noon – 2 PM Sunday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
