Virginia Lee Smith – Obituary

Virginia Lee Smith, age 86, departed this earth to be with the Lord at 6:25 a.m. Saturday morning, May 31, 2014 at her home in Karnak. She was born April 18, 1928 in Karnak.

Virginia graduated in 1945 from the Karnak High School.  She and Charles Smith were married in 1946 and shared 62 years together.  She retired from the US Postal service after 26 years, working in Karnak and also as a relief clerk in many other offices in Southern Illinois.  She loved working in her Church, serving as Sunday School Secretary and teaching Sunday School and Childrens Church faithfully for many years.  At the time of her death, she was a member of the Belknap Pentecostal Church.  Virginia was a loving, devoted wife and mother and a wonderful friend to all who new her.

Virginia is survived by her son Terry Smith and wife Susan of Karnak, daughter Sherry Rigsby of New Columbia; four grandchildren, Jason Smith and wife Jessica, Jack Rigsby and wife Heather, Allison Thompson and Katelyn Holt; six great grandchildren, Savannah and Eden Smith, Jacqueline and Jessica Rigsby, Branden and Madisen Pearmon; aunt Ruth Beshear; nieces Debbie Rosson, Beverly Sharp and Charlene Stricklen, along with many cousins, great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Smith; her parents were Loren and Mabel Houseright; grandparents, Lonnie and Carrie Houseright; sister, Verla Littleton; uncle Matthew Houseright; aunt Francis McClellan and husband Rev. Vernon McClellan and granson Jeremy Smith.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at the Belknap Pentecostal Church.  Rev. Kenneth Capps will be officiating.  Interment will follow at the Masonic Cemetery in Cypress.  Visitation will be Tuesday morning at the Church from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour of 1:00 p.m.  Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak is in charge.  If you would like to share a memory or leave an on-line condolence for the family please visit our website atwww.wilsonfuneralhome1928.com
