The boy’s track team competed at the sectional meet at Fairfield on May 22. Trenton Lowery led the way for the boys, qualifying for state in both the 300 hurdles and the 110 hurdles, placing first and second respectively. Trenton will compete on Thursday, May 29, at the state track meet at Eastern Illinois University.

Having gone undefeated throughout the year in the 300 hurdles, Trenton is very confident going into the state meet, saying “I started training several months before season and I feel good with my chance of performing well at state. I’m excited to race against the other hurdlers and see how everything turns out.” If Trenton advances past the preliminaries into the finals on Friday, his races will be streamed live on ihsa.org.

The boys track team also placed in two relays at the Fairfield sectional. The 4×800 meter relay team consisting of Marcus Craig, Caleb Clayton, Dannie Chapman and Kevin Penrod finished 4th. The 4×400 meter relay team placed 6th, which consisted of Caleb Clayton, Kevin Penrod, Trenton Lowery and Justin Tanner.

Last week, Desiree Walter capped off her season with her second career appearance in the state tournament. Although she was knocked out in the preliminaries of the 400 meter dash, Desiree finished off a solid season and solidified her spot as one of the best runners in school history.
