John W. Hunter, age 58 years, a resident of rural Makanda, passed away Monday evening, May 12, 2014, at 10:03 p.m. at Southeast Missouri Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
John was born January 11, 1956 in Marion, Illinois. He was the son of Watson Hunter, Jr. & Hazel Mae (Lollis) Hunter.
John was united in marriage to Delores J. Lucher in 1973 by Judge Robert B. Porter in Vienna, Illinois. She survives.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by: his mother – Hazel M. Hunter of Vienna; his children – Angela Hunter of McClure, Steven Hunter of Makanda, and Christina Hunter of Vienna; 3 grandchildren – Nathan Honey, Emilyn Hunter, & Louis Van Muylder; 2 brothers – Joe Hunter and Jim Hunter both of Vienna; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
John was the owner and operator of J.W. Hunter Logging Company. He was a “jack-of-all trades” and was good at everything he did. John lived to be in the outdoors. In addition to his logging business, he also farmed, enjoyed doing mechanic work and operating heavy equipment.
John was devoted to his family.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning, May 15, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Burial will be in the Mt. Hebron Cemetery, near Makanda.
Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
