Evelyn was born September 18, 1921 in Johnson County Illinois. She was the daughter of Guy McKinley Goddard and Nellie (Vaughn) Goddard.
On June 4, 1942, Evelyn was united in marriage to Alva J. Ross at Charleston, Missouri. He preceded her in death on August 25, 2012.
Evelyn is survived by: her sons – Glenn Ross of Marion and Lonnie (Vickie) Ross of Tunnel Hill; her daughter – Jeanne Ross of Tunnel Hill; her grandchildren – Will (Jo Ashley) Ross and Katie (Nick) Turvold; 5 great grandchildren – Lane, Rylee Jo Ashley, Evelyn Faith, Nevaeh Sky, and Kaitlin Grace; 3 sisters – Joan Boner of Chicago, Mary Hale of Georgia, and Nancy Tite of Ozark; a brother – George Goddard of Salem; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by a brother – Samuel Goddard; and 2 sisters – Demarise Payne and Edna Hughes.
Evelyn was a homemaker. During the time Alva served in the military, Evelyn was employed as a retail sales clerk by Sears-Roebuck, Inc. in Chicago. She was later employed as a cook at the Tunnel Hill Grade School.
Evelyn was a faithful and devoted member of the Reynoldsburg Church, where she had formerly served as a ladies Sunday School class teacher. Evelyn is remembered for her love of quilting. She also enjoyed shopping, especially with her granddaughter Katie, and working crossword puzzles. Evelyn had a deep love for her family and especially cherished the time she spent with them. She enjoyed preparing Sunday dinner for her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning, May 9, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Reynoldsburg Church. Pastor Shorty Alsip will officiate. Burial will be in the Reynoldsburg Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 p.m. Thursday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna and from 10 – 11 a.m. Friday at the church.
