Dee Ray Johnson – Obituary

Dee Ray Johnson, age 83 years, a resident of Anna, Illinois, passed away Friday morning, May 23, 2014, at the home of his daughter, Kelly Needler, in Bluford, Illinois.

Dee Ray was born November 22, 1930 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  He was the son of Isaac Johnson and Maude (Annable) Johnson.

Dee Ray was united in marriage to Devonna (Brown) in 1949 in Arkansas.  She preceded him in death on October 19, 1993.

Survivors include:  his children – Kelly (William) Needler of Bluford, IL, Larry (Marie) Johnson of Elgin, IL, Jason (Jackie) Johnson of Anna, IL, and Greg (Janice) Johnson of Elgin, IL; 10 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; a sister – Alice (Jack) Martin of Tulsa, OK; and a dear friend – Anna Diordi of Karnak, IL.

In addition to his parents and wife, Dee Ray was preceded in death by: a daughter – Tracy Gwen Johnson; 3 sisters & brothers-in-law – Leota (Jake) Mathis, Dorothy (Bill) Wolfe, and Ruth (Jack) Searight; an infant brother and an infant sister.

Dee Ray was employed as a mental health technician at the Anna State Hospital and later at the Elgin State Hospital.  He also worked as the government shipping supervisor at Simpson Electric Co. in Elgin.

Dee Ray enjoyed spending time with family & friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 26, 2014, at 12 Noon at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.  Pastor Larry Moreau will officiate.  Burial will be in the Cypress Masonic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 AM – 12 Noon Monday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
