VHS business students take top honors

Vienna High School Business Students took First Place at Shawnee Business Skills Competition on Thursday, March 27.  VHS took home 20 awards, including the Business Student of the Year award, which was awarded to Senior Lucas Wright.

Vienna High School Business Teachers Joan Clayton and Drew Lawrence, along with Technology Coordinator Joshua Stafford accompanied the students to the event.

Lucas Wright was named Outstanding Business Student of the Year.  Lucas is the Editor of the Vienna High School newspaper, The Talon, and is also a producer of Eagle Outlook, an entertainment and news broadcast that is created at VHS.  Lucas will have earned his associates degree from Shawnee Community College when he graduates from Vienna High School in May 2014.  Lucas plans to attend the University of Illinois and major in broadcast journalism.  Lucas has been awarded the President’s Scholarship to the University of Illinois and the University of Illinois Media Scholarship.

In addition to Lucas’ win, Vienna High School took home 19 other awards.  1st Place trophies included Lucas Kossack – Web Page Design, Lucas Wright – Job Interview, Markayla Johnson – Technical English, and Kathryn Jones – Entrepreneurship.

2nd Place awards went to Becky Reeder – Accounting II, Avery Kerley – Public Speaking and Business Professional, Lucas Wright – Desktop Publishing, Noah Bain – General Business, Sarah Allen – Office Support Procedures, Alyssa Ferguson – Technical English, Trenton Lowery – Technical Math, Julie Allen – Word Processing II, and Shane Cowsert – Web Page Design.

3rd Place awards were Lucas Kossack – Networking Concepts, Damian Wheaton – Public Speaking, Megan McCuan – Technical Math, Markayla Johnson – Entrepreneurship, and Rachael Ren – Business Professional.
