The VHS Lady Eagles softball team opened their season on Wednesday, March 19, against Pope County.

However they started off their year on the wrong foot, taking a loss to the Lady Pirates 13-7.

The Lady Eagles started off the game with a 5-run first inning, behind strong hitting throughout the entire lineup. But, from there the Lady Eagles bats went quiet. They could only manage 2 runs throughout the remaining 6 innings, while the Lady Pirates tallied 13 runs.

On Friday night the girls beat Ballard County in the first game of the Marshall County Slugfest by a score of 11-3. However, the rest of the tournament wasn’t as kind to the Lady Eagles. They lost their final three games of the tourney on Saturday to Murray, St. Mary’s and Marshall County respectively.

On Monday the Lady Eagles took on Cobden at home and won in a blowout 18-5.

Alexis Harper took the mound and pitched a complete game for the Lady Eagles.

The offense was driven by Katie White who hit her first home run of the year and by Maranda Chance who added a grand slam.

The Lady Eagles will head to Crab Orchard Wednesday and Egyptian on Thursday this week.
