Louis C. Jenkins, age 85 years, a resident of Goreville, Illinois, passed away Tuesday evening, January 7, 2014, at 10:55 p.m. at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.
Louis was born September 23, 1928 in Makanda, Illinois. He was the son of Edward & Daisy Mae (Howard) Jenkins.
Louis is survived by his sister – Virginia Hadders of Buncombe, IL along with a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Louis was preceded in death by 4 sisters and 2 brothers.
Louis was a graduate of Cobden High School. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged with the rank of Private. Louis later attended John A. Logan Community College and Shawnee Community College and received his training and certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Louis was employed at the Manteno State Hospital until his retirement. Following his return to Southern Illinois, he was employed at several local nursing homes, last working at the Cobden City Care Center.
Louis was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening and farming. Louis was also very fitness minded and had enjoyed exercising and jogging.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon, January 11, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Rev. Gary O’Neal will officiate. Burial will be in the Busby Chapel Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by the Beggs-Gurley VFW Post # 5222 and the Illinois National Guard Burial Honors Detail.
Visitation will be conducted from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
