Doris Beck Wilson – Obituary

Doris Beck Wilson, age 97, of Karnak, passed away at 11:34 p.m., Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at the Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis with her family by her side.

Doris was born April 7, 1916 in Karnak, IL. She and Woodrow were married in February of 1937 during the ’37 flood. She was a member of the Karnak United Methodist Church, the Karnak Lions Club, the Karnak United Methodist Woman, and the Order of Eastern Star #710 in Belknap.  Doris was very active in the operation of Wilson Funeral Home as a Lady Attendant for well over fourty years.  Doris tried never to miss anything which her children, grand-children or her great-grandchildren were involved.  This included baseball, basketball, competitive roller skateing, church and school activities.  Doris loved it when her family could all be together and especially for the fish frys.

She is survived by one daughter, Suzann (Norman) Kester of Pleasanton, CA; one son, Gary (Sharon) Wilson of Karnak; five grandchildren, Keith (Holly) Wilson of Karnak, Jeffery (Candice) Kester of San Diego, CA, Thomas Kester of Pacific Grove, CA, Holly Ann Marr of Pleasanton, CA, and Garrett (Karen) Wilson of Karnak; four great-grandchildren, Trevor, Ryan and Bradley Wilson of Karnak and Kortney Marr of Pleasanton, CA.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Wilson; one granddaughter, Deborah Lynn Kester; her parents, Frank and Elda Houseright Beck; three sisters, Frances Barleston, Flora Mae Canada and Wilma Till.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak. Rev. Alan Milligan and Rev. Steve Heisner will be officiating.  Interment will follow at the Masonic Cemetery in Cypress.  Pallbearers will be Keith, Garrett, Trevor, Ryan and Bradley Wilson, Jeffery and Thomas Kester and Holly Marr.  Music will be provided by Sharon Wilson.
