Howard R. “Bob” Evitts, age 77 years, a resident of rural Golconda, passed away Sunday morning, December 29, 2013, at 9:12 a.m. at the Hardin County General Hospital in Rosiclare, Illinois.
Bob was born September 5, 1936 in Pope County Illinois. He was the son of Whitnel Dewayne Evitts and Jessie (Milliken) Evitts.
Bob is survived by: his son – Randall Ray Evitts of Golconda, IL; 4 sisters – Frances (Norris) Schuchardt of the Glendale community, Alice Ann Broadway of Nashville, IL, Darlene (Michael) Richards of Centralia, IL, and Barbara (William) Bender of Pearland, TX; a brother – Charles Glen (Barbara) Evitts of Paducah, KY; an uncle – Curt Evitts; 3 sisters-in-law Donna Evitts, Mary Alice Evitts, and Ethel Evitts (Ed) Bates; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a sister – Mildred Bailey; 3 brothers – Kenneth, George, and Michael Evitts; stepmother – Edna Mae Hertter Evitts; and 2 brothers-in-law – Stanley Broadway and Rev. John Bailey.
Bob was employed for several years by Caterpillar, Inc. in the Joliet, IL plant. He later worked as a self- employed carpenter until declining health prevented him from continuing to work.
Bob was a member of the Cedar Grove Social Brethren Church near Eddyville. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. In his youth, Bob enjoyed trapping.
Interment will be in the New Liberty Cemetery, southwest of Eddyville. Memorials may be made to the New Liberty Cemetery Fund, c/o Nola Maynor, 687 IL Highway 145 North, Simpson, IL 62985.
