On Nov. 15, meet the Eagles was held at Vienna High School. Meet the Eagles is when the winter sports, Eagles and Lady Eagles basketball, dance, cheerleading and the mascots showcase their talents to the community. The athletes were greeted by the community as they showcased their talents during scrimmage games, dance routines and cheer stunts. Several seniors were randomly selected to share their thoughts on their last winter season as an Eagle. In this article we will share what the seniors from both the girls and boys basketball teams reflected upon. Next week we will cover the other winter sports, dance, cheerleading and the VHS mascots.
The Lady Eagles consist of seven seniors: Maranda Chance, Allison Penrod, Allison Browning, Desiree Walter, Jami Shipley, Cassidy Stout and Haley Edwards.
The Lady Eagles assistant basketball coach Jamie Kerley stated, “There are several strong seniors to help lead us to victory this year.”
Senior basketball player Maranda Chance said the thing that she is going to miss most about high school basketball is her teammates. “There is never a dull moment with them,” Maranda said. When reflecting on the realization that this will be her last year as a Lady Eagle, Maranda said, “I am excited to see us accomplish many things as a team, but it also makes me emotional.”
Senior Jami Shipley also plays basketball for the Lady Eagles. Jami said she is looking forward to working with her team and coaches, so they can be successful this season. Although she is excited, Jami said, “I am going to miss being part of the incredible community and atmosphere of Vienna High School.”
The Eagles basketball team consists of four seniors: Blake Crain, Lucas Wright, Trenton Lowery and Tyler Sullivan.
Eagles basketball coach Cory Waters is excited about the upcoming season. He said, “The team is going to let their actions speak louder than their words.”
Senior Blake Crain said, “I feel bittersweet because it is my last season, but I am excited to see what my future holds in sports.” Even though Blake isn’t the tallest one on the court, he brings an unstoppable force to the team.
Senior Trenton Lowery also expressed his sadness that his Eagles basketball career is ending. He said, “I am going to miss playing on the court with my teammates. We have definitely had great times throughout the years.” Trenton anticipates to secure many wins during his last season.
The Eagles and Lady Eagles’ schedules can be found on the school website so you can come help cheer them to victory! Keep an eye out for next week’s article for the interviews with the mascots, dance and cheerleading teams.
