Fatal motorcycle/deer collision

Johnson and Massac County emergency personnel responded Monday afternoon, Nov. 11, to a fatal crash on US 45, 1000 feet south of Johnson/Massac county line. A motorcycle driven by Paul D. Meyers Jr., 49, of Grand Chain, was struck by a deer at approximately 3:55 p.m.  Meyers and his passenger, Valerie A. Caulfield, 47, of Joppa, were travelling south when the accident occurred. Caulfield received fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Meyers received major injuries and was airlifted to an Evansville hospital. The investigation continues by ISP.
