VHS Volleyball season begins

The Vienna High School volleyball squad opened its season last week with a Wednesday night loss at Carmi in two sets, 25-19, 25-17. Maranda Chance led the Lady Eagles with five kills.

On the next night, Vienna hosted Johnston City, with the Lady Indians winning in two sets, 25-13, 25-21.  In the first set, Johnston City steadily pulled away for the win.  In the second set, with the score tied at 5-5, the Lady Eagles reeled off three straight points to grab an 8-5 lead. Johnston City rallied with a 6-1 run to go ahead 11-9.  The Lady Indians pushed their lead to 13-9 before Vienna went on a 5-1 run to tie it at 14-14.  The Lady Eagles tied it again at 21-21, but Johnston City closed the set with four straight points for the win.  Meighan Smith had five blocks for Vienna.

Up next for Vienna: Thursday (Sept. 12) at Eldorado; Saturday at Carrier Mills Tourney; Monday at Goreville; Tuesday at Fairfield.
