Emma Gene (Meyers) Averitt – Obituary

Emma Gene (Meyers) Averitt, age 66 years, a resident of Metropolis, Illinois, passed away Wednesday evening, September 11, 2013, at 10:20 PM at her home.

Emma Gene was born June 7, 1947 near Karnak, Illinois.  She was the daughter of Henry Joseph Meyers & Violena (Hardin) Meyers.

Emma Gene was united in marriage to William Benjamin Averitt, Jr. on February 12, 1966 in Metropolis, Illinois. He preceded her in death on April 4, 2011.

Survivors include her children, Kay (Darrell) Jameson of Metropolis, IL, Ronnie (Jenny) Averitt of Metropolis, IL, Angie (Billy) Gullett of Nebraska, Theresa (Ron) Humphrey of Wayland, MI, Janice (Edward) Kinsey of Metropolis, IL and Allen Wynn (Shanon) Estel of Cave In Rock, IL;

Grandchildren Brooklynn Estel, Hailee Estel, Collin Estel, Macee Estel, Caitlin Humphrey, Sean Humphrey, Kelsey Humphrey, Thomas Rattliff, Jr, Edward Kinsey III, Isaiah Kinsey, Aaron Kinsey, Kaden Kinsey, Donald Lee Jameson, David Jameson, Jessica Averitt, Bonnie Lynn Meyers, Cory Meyers and Douglas Wedger;

Three brothers, Herman Meyers of Belknap, IL, William Meyers of Metropolis, IL and  Bobby D. Meyers of Vienna, IL

Three sisters, Rosie Easley of Joppa, IL, Betty Joiner of Metropolis, IL and Wilma Black of Newport, IA.

Several nieces, nephews as well as a host of other relatives and many dear friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Emma Gene was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Marie Averitt; a grandson – Shawn McClain; two brothers, Chuck Meyers and Larry Joe Meyers; and twoisters, Lillian Reagan and Spring Meyers.

Emma Gene was of the Baptist faith.  She loved her family and was a free spirit.  Emma Gene was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone, was very hard working and was very giving, loving and accepting of everyone.

A graveside service will be held Monday afternoon, September 16, 2013, at 1 PM at the Berea Cemetery, southeast of Vienna. Pastor Richard Swiney will officiate.

Visitation will be from 12:30 PM – 1 PM at the cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
