Police involved in possible armed-standoff in Johnson County Saturday

The Illinois State Police, Johnson County Sheriff’s Department and the Vienna City Police are currently responding to, what appears to a standoff with an armed man, refusing to exit his residence on Old Cypress Road, near Vienna.

What we know now is that Johnson County Sheriff Elry Faulkner has been in contact with the person(s) in the house.

As many as three people were in the house when police arrived at around 1:00 this afternoon.

As of 5:00 p.m., at least one person remains in the house, refusing to come out.

A mid-afternoon report from a local police officer indicated that one person in the house may had pointed a gun at him twice.

Old Cypress Road, between Jenkins Road and Oak Grove Road, remains closed as of 5:45 p.m. Anyone attempting to enter will be turned around by police.

At 6:30 this evening, an ISP officer said they were waiting for a negotiator to arrive.

The details of the initial police response remains unclear at this time.

Johnson County Ambulance Service was call to standby at Oak Grove Church.
