The Vienna-Goreville High School football team will open its season this Saturday against Johnston City.  Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m. at Vienna.  Last year, V-G lost to Johnston City in their final regular season game when the Indians kicked a field goal with three seconds to play, giving them a 17-14 win.

Although the Eagles lost some key offensive and defensive linemen from last year’s 7-4 team to graduation, head coach Mike Rude noted that “we have shored up and the kids are working hard.”

On offense, V-G returns almost its entire starting backfield from last season, and the addition of some new players will give the Eagles more options when they have the ball.  Defensively, V-G has a pair of All-BDC selections at linebacker in Dallas Melot and Connor Seavers, and Kyefer Cavins returns as a mainstay of the secondary.

Following Saturday’s varsity game, the V-G freshman team is scheduled to take on Johnston City at 3:00 p.m.

The sophomore squad will travel to Johnston City next Tuesday, with kick-off at 6:15 p.m.
