The Johnson County Chamber of Commerce will hold its regular monthly meeting Friday, August 16, at 12 noon at Newt’s Pizza in Vienna. The luncheon will be buffet style luncheon and everyone is welcome.
This month’s speaker will be Jody Johnson.
Johnson is the County Extension Director for University of Illinois Extension in the Alexander/Johnson/Massac/Pulaski/Union Unit. He has a master’s degree in business administration and a bachelor’s degree in business management from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.
In his role as County Extension Director, Johnson supervises over 12 staff conducting programming in four broad areas: community and economic development; agriculture and natural resources; nutrition, family and consumer sciences; and 4-H/youth development.
Since 2002, Jody has served as an elected official for the Village of Goreville.
While on the village board, Jody has assisted with several development projects in Goreville; negotiated water contracts with water districts, and been directly involved with the creation of both of Goreville’s TIF districts.
Currently, Jody is leading an effort to see Goreville participate in strategic planning process to prepare the community for long-term development and be better prepared for short-term problems.
Mr. Johnson will be discussing TIF. TIF has been the catalyst for the development occurring in Goreville.
Since it was created in 2008, Goreville has seen the creation of several new businesses and the building of several new homes and rental properties. Because of Mayor Larry Vaughn’s leadership and an aggressive village board, Goreville has looked for opportunities to work with developers to manage growth for the community.
This is a great opportunity for business members to become more acquainted with ways to develop in Johnson County. Don’t miss it.
