Oakley Lee “Bud” Dalton, Jr. – Obituary

Oakley Lee “Bud” Dalton, Jr., 77, of Tunnel Hill, Illinois, passed away Friday evening July 26, 2013 at 10:18 p.m. at his home.

Bud was born on December 31, 1935 in Williamson County, Illinois. He was the son of Oakley Lee Dalton, Sr. and Mable M. (Cook) Dalton.

Bud was united in marriage to Shirley (Moore) Dalton on December 31, 1955 in Vienna, Illinois. She survives.

Other survivors include his children: Vickie (John) Craig of Tunnel Hill, Pat (Ted) Wilson of Karnak, Ill. and Billy (Toby) Dalton of Tunnel Hill.

He is also survived by eight grandchildren – Jason (Samantha) Johnson, Jodie (Chad) Douglas, Stephanie (Danny) Holland, Brandon (Courtney) Dalton, Brian (Amy) Dalton, Breanna (Kav) Kerley, Brittany Barkley and Braeden Dalton and 17 great-granchildren.

He is also survived by sisters Shirley McDonald, Brenda Mullins, brother Jimmy Dalton, special cousin, who was thought a brother, Billie Dalton,
nieces, nephews, and many dear relatives.

In addition to his parents Bud was preceded in death by a grandson, Darren Johnson, two brothers, Donald Wayne “Donnie” Dalton
Jackie Ray Dalton and two sisters, Margaret Ann Dalton and Ruby Pearl Dalton.

Bud worked for Conrail as a track supervisor for the southern section until 1982. He then had worked at S.I. Stone until his retirement in 2002.

Bud was a member of Local #318. He had a love for horses and everything about them, especially horseback riding with his family and his team and wagon trips. After retirement he enjoyed mowing and working outside.

Bud was of the christian faith. People who knew Bud knew he was a ‘mountain of a man’ and had worked his whole life providing for his family.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date.
